FIRST NINE WEEKS
NINE WEEK PROJECT #1
Description: A gif of Jim Moriarty, from the BBC series Sherlock.
Instructions: First, I found a picture of Moriarty and opened it in Photoshop. I used the Pen tool to cut out Moriarty's figure, then right-clicked and used "Make Selection." I made sure the setting was set to "New Selection." I then used Ctrl + J to copy it four times, for each panel of the gif. I then went to Select > Color Range and selected the Shadows of one of the cut-out figure layers. I pressed Ctrl + J to copy the areas that were shadows into a new layer. Next, I went to Edit > Fill and selected Black for the fill option. I then went back to the original layer and selected the Midtones, then the Highlights and did the same thing to them using a darker color and a lighter color, respectively to give the face some shading, if not much, in order to make the shadows on the opposite side of the face more apparent. I made a new layer and filled it in with black using Ctrl + Backspace. From top to bottom, the layers were ordered: Shadows, Midtones, Highlights, cut-out figure, and black. I left three other cut-out figure layers below that. I then merged the top five layers together using Ctrl + E. I repeated the process for three other panels, each with different colors for the Midtones and Highlights, but maintaining the black for the Shadows and the Highlights. After this, I added a Pattern Overlay to each panel from Layer > Layer Style > Pattern Overlay. I went to each panel and added a word, writing out "I'm Watching You - Jim." I then went to each of the words and arched them with the "Create Warped Text" option at the top toolbar. I used the "wave" style. I then went to Window > Animation and made a gif by adding a frame one at a time and making the layers I wanted to see in that gif invisible. I put a black layer between each frame that had Moriarty and made the panels have a 0.2 second delay, excluding the last one, which has a 0.5 second delay.

NINE WEEK PROJECT #2
Description: A Tyrannosaurus rex with a copied portion of its Wikipedia page from behind it.
Instructions: First, I found a picture of the T. rex and opened it in Photoshop. I then used the Magic Wand tool to select the white of the background and deleted it. Next, I made a new layer and filled it with red using Ctrl + Backspace. I then used the Smude tool to flick out the edges of the T. rex, leaving the head alone so the effect would not be taken away from the teeth. I then went to Layer > Layer Style > Pattern Overlay and changed the opacity to 70%, I also clicked on the Gradient drop down menu and clicked on the red and black option. I went to Wikipedia and copied a portion of the text and copied it into a new text layer in photoshop. I went to Layer > Layer Style > Outer Glow and kept it with the default settings. I changed the settings for Layer > Layer Style > Inner Glow, putting the opacity to 100% and changing the countour to the second one in the first row of the dropdown menu.

SECOND NINE WEEKS
NINE WEEK PROJECT #1
Description: Penguins in Antartica, except with pink. Cause everybody loves pink.
Instructions: Find a picture of adorable penguins. Copy the layer and put the Cutout filter on it with Number of Levels 8, Edge Simplicity 2, and Edge Fidelity 3. Hide that layer and go back to the other one, where you'll select Color Range and Highlights, Midtones, Shadows. If your picture is near brightwater, select Cyans as well. From Shadows to Highlights, make them progressively lighter shades of gray, with Highlights being white. Make Cyans a slight off white. Merge them all into one layer, move it above the cutout layer, and change the opacity to 17%. Next, use Filter > Render > Lens Flare. Move it in the direction that you want (as long as its not behind everything). Next, make a new layer. Go to Select > Color Range and select Cyans again. Fill it with pink. Use the paint bucket tool to fill several other areas, including the penguin bellies and several white areas of snow and set the layer's opacity to 75%.

NINE WEEK PROJECT #2
Description: A diamond on a watery checkerboard.
Instructions: Make five different layers. On the bottom one, use the Gradient tool to create a Gray-White gradient going from the bottom right corner to the top left corner. Use the pen tool to delete the white that crosses over the diagonal line going through the canvas. Do the opposite to the top layer. On the next layer, use the Rectangular Maruqee tool to fill in squares with black in a checkerboard pattern. Use the Ocean Ripple filter with Ripple Size 14 and Ripple Magnitude 12. Set that layer's opacity to 49%. Use View > Grid to make a black diamond on the next layer. Go to the next layer and make a white diamond. Use the Stained Glass filter with Cell Size 2, Border Thickness 4 and Light Intensity 3. Put a white stroke on the outer diamond.
